10. The Red Badge of Courage


Adapted from the novel by Stephen Crane tells of a young man (Audie Murphy) in the midst of civil war that occurred in America. He was forced to look at the horrors of war that led to the choice of cowardice or courageous act, especially after some of the events of the war claimed the lives of several people he knew.

9. Gettysburg
Released in 1993 and directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, the film is trying to depict the total situation of civil war in America in 1863 through the eyes of prominent figures from both the union and confederate forces.

8. MASH
Made based on the novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors by Richard Hooker. The film portrays a medic unit is running in the middle of the war in Korea. Although set in the Korean war, but the actual film tells the story of the Vietnam War.

7. Full Metal Jacket
Released in 1987, the film Full Metal Jacket is a war film based on the novel by Gustav Hasford's The Short-Timers. With the story focusing on the mentality of one platoon of U.S. Marines who were training, so many unique stories will be told from each character that was there.

The Thin Red Line adalah sebuah "come back" yang sangat baik dari sutradara Terrence Malick setelah absen hampir 20 tahun dari karya terakhirnya "Days of Heaven". ia menulis sekenario film ini berdasarkan pada novel karya James Jones. Seorang kritikus film bernama Gene Siskel bahkan menyebut bahwa film The Thin Red Line adalah film perang kontemporer terbesar yang pernah ia lihat.

2. Paths of Glory



Dirilis tahun 1957 dengan latar belakang situasi perang dunia 1, film ini bercerita tentang Kolonel Dax, seorang komandan tentara Prancis yang mencoba melawan keputusan satuannya untuk melanjutkan serangan bunuh diri. Dax yang dituding pengecut justru berani membawa keyakinan ini ke hadapan pengadilan. Film ini sendiri diangkat dari novel berjudul sama karya Humphrey Cobb.

1. Apocalypse Now



Film ini adalah film yang akan menyimpan kenangan unik dan tak terlupakan bagi para awak di dalamnya. Film yang seolah hampir saja gagal dilempar ke pasaran karena berbagai permasalahan yang menimpa pemain dan set film dilapangan, seperti ketika Marlon Brando yang mengalami kelebihan berat, Martin Sheen yang menderita serangan jantung hingga cuaca ekstrim. Semua kisah itu dapat kita simak pada karya dokumenter Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse. FIlm ini sendiri berkisah tentang perang Vietnam yang diadaptasi Francis Ford Coppola dari novel Joseph Conrad berjudul Heart of Darkness.
